Float / Sail Plan

Before you head out on the waters, leave a sail plan with a responsible person who can alert authorities on your behalf if you fail to return on schedule and cannot be contacted.

Float or sail plans, similar to aeronautical flight plans, are simple documents that provide information about you, your vessel, your radio, and emergency equipment on board and your planned itinerary including route and stopover information. This information is extremely useful to search and rescue authorities in getting help to you as quickly as possible.

Float/Sail plans work by providing the plan to a responsible person, who will call authorities on your behalf, if you fail to check-in at a pre-arranged time or times and they are unable to reach you via your mobile or satellite phone (or other technology they know you have).

Download the document below, fill in the information and give or send it to a responsible person.

Please don't be the person watching the search and rescue boats from the pub balcony as they are OUT searching for you!

It is essential that you check-in as arranged.
